AI video interviews are asynchronous video recordings in which candidates answer predefined questions and AI systems evaluate the answers. Common approaches are content analysis (NLP over transcripts), speech analysis (speed, pauses) and, in some solutions, facial expression or voice analysis.
Proponents cite efficiency and ostensibly objective assessments. Critics highlight serious issues: cultural biases, discrimination against neurodivergent candidates, the questionable scientific basis of expression analysis and significant privacy concerns. In Germany and the EU such practices are accordingly strictly regulated.
The EU AI Act classifies expression analysis for hiring as high-risk and bans certain practices outright. Candidates have a right to be informed of usage, to explanations and to human review. Anyone wishing to refuse an AI video interview can often request a classical interview – best framed respectfully.
Lunigi does not use AI video interviews – the platform stays out of the selection process and only curates matching roles.
