Machine learning (ML) is the subfield of artificial intelligence in which algorithms learn from data rather than being explicitly programmed for each rule. Classic methods include decision trees, random forests, support vector machines, linear models and neural networks. ML is widely used in business, science and government – from credit scoring to predictive maintenance.
In HR, ML applications appear in CV matching, performance prediction, attrition forecasting ("who will leave?") and workforce planning. They bring opportunities such as faster selection, better fit and relief from routine work – and risks: bias, opacity, lack of explainability.
For candidates, it matters that ML in hiring comes with particular duties. The EU AI Act classifies recruiting models as high-risk – with documentation requirements, bias audits and the right to human review of decisions.
Lunigi uses ML continuously but deliberately keeps the final decision with the person, who accepts or rejects each match.
