Integration work covers all professional activities supporting people with migration backgrounds in language, education, employment and society. Providers include the migration services of welfare associations, municipalities, adult-education centres, training providers, NGOs and private education providers. Migration counselling for adults (MBE) and youth migration services (JMD) are dedicated funding lines.
Typical tasks are individual counselling, organising language courses, accompanying recognition processes, placement in training or work, support with authorities, housing search and family reunion. Anti-racist education, intercultural training and community-oriented work also belong here.
Demand has grown significantly since 2015, with further waves driven by Ukrainian refugees and skilled-worker immigration. Roles are largely covered by collective agreements, often fixed-term due to third-party funding. Language skills, intercultural competence and empathy are essential.
