Agency Staffing

Synonym for temp agency work in Germany – the temporary assignment of employees to another company.

Agency staffing (Leiharbeit) is largely synonymous with temp agency work (Zeitarbeit) in the German labour-market vocabulary, describing worker assignment under the AÜG. Politics and collective agreements often use the terms interchangeably; occasionally Leiharbeit emphasises the lending aspect, Zeitarbeit the time-limited character of the assignment.

The key legal pillars are identical: equal pay after nine months, a maximum assignment duration of 18 months, sector surcharges where collective agreements apply. Protective provisions cover chained assignments and grant employees the right to be informed about open positions at the client.

For candidates: anyone using agency staffing as an entry route should know the sector's collective register, examine working-time rules and actual assignment durations, and clarify expectations on permanent transfer with the staffing firm. The sector has professionalised over recent years; good providers are transparent and long-term oriented.

Lunigi rarely surfaces agency-staffing roles, and clearly flags them as such when it does.
