Natural Language Processing (NLP)

Subfield of AI concerned with machine processing of natural language.

Natural language processing (NLP) is the subfield of AI concerned with the machine processing of natural language. It covers tasks such as text recognition, translation, sentiment analysis, named-entity recognition (people, places, companies), question answering and summarisation.

In recruiting NLP is ubiquitous. Resume parsers use NLP to extract experience, skills and education from CVs. Job postings are classified by NLP (industry, function, seniority), reviews and online posts are analysed for sentiment. Internal communication platforms even analyse text for stress or conflict signals.

The combination of classic NLP and modern LLMs delivers far better results than purely rule-based approaches. Errors remain, however – especially with specialised industry terms, regional dialects and newer occupations that are under-represented in training data.

Lunigi uses NLP in a targeted way to align postings, profiles and requirements – candidates see only the outcome: matching roles in their inbox.
