Midijob

Employment in the transition zone between Minijob and full social insurance, with reduced employee contributions.

A Midijob is a German role where monthly gross income lies above the Minijob threshold but below a defined upper transition limit – currently roughly 600 to 2000 euros per month. Within this corridor employees pay reduced social-insurance contributions without losing full coverage.

In practice this means: Midijob employees are fully covered by health, long-term-care, pension and unemployment insurance, but pay a lower employee share than at higher incomes. The legislator uses this to ease the transition from marginal to full social insurance without an abrupt jump in contributions.

For employees, the Midijob is a useful middle path – returning from parental leave, ramping up part-time after a long illness, or transitioning from studies. It secures pension points and prevents gaps in social insurance.

Lunigi flags weekly hours in matching roles, making Midijob suitability visible – particularly relevant for candidates focused on work-life balance or staged returns.
